The Italian press harshly criticized Juventus’ performance in the 2-1 defeat by Porto last Wednesday, for the first round of the Champions League. But two players in particular were criticized more: midfielder Bentacur, who failed bizarrely in the Dragons’ first goal, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese ace, who only gave a shot on goal in the match, only received no worse score than the Uruguayan athlete in three of the main sports publications in Italy. Corriere Dello Sport, for example, scored 4.5 (on a scale of 0 to 10) and said that Cristiano Ronaldo was a “ghost” on the field.
Gazzetta dello Sport, from Milan, also attributed the same score 4.5 to the Portuguese, emphasizing that even with a supposed penalty not scored on him at the end of the match, there are “no excuses” for the bad performance. Tuttosport, from Turin, increased Cristiano Ronaldo’s score to 5, which according to the publication “was not the real CR7”.
