Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has given the biggest hint that the Italian club will try to make a move for Paul Pogba before the end of the window. Such a move would mark a return to Turin for the French midfielder, who spent four seasons at the club before making the then-world record switch to Manchester United.

Pogba has been one of the high profile names expected to switch clubs in this transfer window. According to Goal.com, Sarri said: “I like him very much, but he’s a Man Utd player. I’m not the technical director so I don’t know the situation.”

The player has openly admitted that Manchester United may not be able to enjoy his services anymore. The comments made by his agent, Mino Raiola, have done little to raise expectations about the 26-year-old staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Real Madrid have been linked heavily with a move for the Frenchman. It would bring together a whole contingent of French-speaking players to the Spanish capital, where Zinedine Zidane has been flexing his muscles in the transfer market since returning to the club for a second spell. However, it appears that Madrid may face competition from Juventus, who will hold a strong emotional attachment, for the signature of the midfielder.

Even though Pogba came through the ranks at Le Havre and made the switch to Manchester United in his teens, the midfielder is best known for blossoming into his current stature only at Turin. Even though he largely played under Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri during this period, Sarri believes that he will be able to get the best out of the  box-to-box midfielder.

A number of United managers have tried and failed to get the best of Pogba on a consistent basis. Surprisingly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have come the closest with Pogba enjoying his best campaign in terms of numbers. The midfielder scored 13 league goals – the first time he has hit double figures in the league campaign – and came up with several more assists in the 2018-19 season.

The lure to link up with a manager like Maurizio Sarri appears to be quite high amongst players. Even though rumours continue to circulate that Cristiano Ronaldo played an influential role in convincing Matthijs de Ligt to make the £67 million move to Juventus, the Ajax defender claimed that Sarri was a key factor in deciding to make the move to the Allianz Stadium.

After winning the first major trophy of his career, Sarri will be looking to build further and gain more honours. Juventus already have a formidable squad in the making and signing Pogba would make them stronger in one of their weakest areas of the pitch. De Ligt is one of the several new signings to make the switch to the Italian champions this season. Luca Pellegrini, Aaron Ramsey, Gianluigi Buffon, Adrien Rabiot, Cristian Romero, and Merih Demiral have all made the switch to Sarri’s team.

A number of players have spoken with high regard about the attacking philosophy employed by Sarri. The combination of players like Ronaldo and Pogba in the same team would certainly make Juventus as a pick for the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.
